The Automation Technician operates as subject matter expert (SME) providing technical support for the planning, installation, commissioning, maintenance and continuous improvement of automated processes throughout the Perrigo New York production system, reporting on current capabilities and future opportunities. This specialist position requires experience and education in engineering, robotics, production automation and equipment reliability. Major Duties / Responsibilities
- Install, maintain and improve automation systems and components throughout the production process
- Lead troubleshooting / root-cause problem solving of equipment related issues in production, involving Mechanical and Electrical as well as PLC-controlled equipment
- Support equipment installations, modifications, validations, improvements, set-up and adjustment process development, factory-acceptance tests (FAT)
- Test validate and document PLC controls, provide technical review and input for the change control process
- Support development and execution of preventative maintenance programs
- Partner with production to develop and deliver training plans, evaluate and monitor performance of mechanics and set up techs, provide hands on training and support
- Identify, plan and deliver process improvements throughout the production areas, with focus on implementation of automation/robotics opportunities.
Requirements And Qualification
- At least 2 years of hands-on Maintenance Mechanic experience - required
- At least 2 years of experience in robotics, PLC Controls/automated systems - required
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills - required
- Strong mechanical aptitude and communication skills - required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering - preferred
- Advanced mechanical/electrical or PLC certification - preferred
