Job Description: Contracts Manager (Defense Industry)

Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Contracts Manager to join our team in the defense industry. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex contracts, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and leading contract negotiations. The role requires an active Top Secret clearance and deep familiarity with defense contracting, including knowledge of FAR/DFARS and ITAR regulations. This position plays a critical role in supporting defense programs and ensuring contractual obligations are met to deliver successful outcomes for both the company and the customer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contract Management: Oversee the full lifecycle of contracts, from proposal development and negotiation to execution and closeout, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and company policies.
- Compliance: Ensure all contracts are executed in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations Supplement (DFARS), and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential contractual risks, providing guidance on resolving disputes and contract-related issues.
- Negotiation: Lead contract negotiations with customers, partners, and subcontractors, ensuring terms are favorable and aligned with company objectives.
- Collaboration: Work closely with program managers, legal, finance, and procurement teams to support the successful execution of contracts.
- Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of contract documentation, amendments, and any changes, ensuring timely submission of contract deliverables.
- Compliance Audits: Coordinate and support internal and external audits related to contract performance and compliance.
- Customer Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for contractual matters with government agencies, defense contractors, and subcontractors.
- Training & Development: Mentor and provide training on contract management best practices and regulatory requirements to junior staff.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, law, or a related field. A Master's degree or JD is a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in contract management, with a focus on defense contracts.
- Experience working with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) contracts and programs.
- In-depth knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and ITAR regulations.
- Experience with classified contracts and managing programs that require Top Secret clearance.
- Clearance: Must possess an active Top Secret clearance.
- Skills:
- Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency with contract management systems and MS Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Cost Reimbursable, Firm Fixed Price, and Time & Materials contract types.
- Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM), Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM), or equivalent certifications.
- Experience with subcontractor management and flow-down requirements.
